Of course they are still testing and checking his account, but the police suspect that the driver of the vehicle is still out there. Armed and dangerous.

That's in English. German language articles say that the arrested man's statements (and denial) appear to check out, that no trace of blood was found on him, and that gunshot residue tests on him were negative. I imagine they are sending the clothing he was found wearing through full forensics.

The original driver of the truck was found dead in the cab. He was shot with a small caliber weapon. There was considerable blood. Apparently some bloody clothes were found, so there is some possibility that the driver/attacker changed clothes. But gunshot residue is less easy to remove, although telemetry records show that there were several hours in which the truck was repetitively started, and this is believed to have happened after the driver was killed. One hopes. So there may have been time for a clean-up, but unconfirmed reports say that gunshot residue was found in the cab, so they believe the original driver was shot there. And if so, there should have been at least some gunshot residue on the seat, etc, so some traces should have been transferred to a change of clothing. Unless there were several perps, and the final attacker wasn't the murder/cleanup crew.

So they aren't certain that they don't have the right guy, but they suspect they don't.
