Republican Governors Warn Lawmakers About Repeal of Affordable Care Act [View all]

In recent comments and letters to Republican House leaders who sought input from state officials on potential health-system changes, several governors have voiced concerns about the effects of abruptly scrapping the 2010 law. At least nine governors and two lieutenant governors have signed up for a Thursday round table held by Senate Finance Committee Republicans on the future of the health laws Medicaid expansion.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who plans to attend Thursdays meeting, has been outspoken about the potential jolt to 700,000 people covered by the expansion of Medicaid in his state under the ACA. He has said this group includes drug addicts and the mentally ill.
Theres room for improvement, but to repeal and not to replace, I just want to know whats going to happen to all those people who find themselves left out in the cold, Mr. Kasich said in a recent press conference.
The debate comes as more Americans, for the first time since the law was enacted, say the ACA was a good idea than a bad one, although opinions remain sharply divided along party lines, according to a Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll.
