Every intelligence service in the world has a desk that subscribes to, receives and processes information from private-sector news services like the AP, CNN, Reuters and Agence France-Press. The information so derived is called "open source." You're not supposed to base product solely on it - anyone can turn on CNN, right? - but it's good to use to fill in the gaps in your coverage.

Open source will be ALL Donald J. Taft ever receives in briefings. There is far too much risk in trusting him with anything even slightly sensitive.
