The way he retired has kind of a sour-grapes feel to it: he was racing for the 2016 championship and caused a 10-car wreck with ten laps to go. After the race he just decided "fuck it, I don't want to do this anymore" (or, alternately, "there are nine guys out there who are looking for my ass&quot and walked away from the sport. Before he did this, he was a popular driver.

I think whether he drove an "import" (Camrys are made in Kentucky, btw) wouldn't affect his chances: a lot of NASCAR fans drive imports.
