The mainstream of anarchy would include the beliefs of Tolstoy, Bukinun, and many other non violent philosophers. All the ones I know are peaceful to the extreme, sometimes even when they are being assaulted. To most of them violence would betray their social principles. Simply put they would say that using violence would be another form of oppression and they don't want to be oppressors. It's not exactly a mainstream view, but I have worked with several on community policing and labor issues with no problem. it seems that only in America is anarchists always associated with violence instead of people who are simply opposed to being oppressed or oppressing others.
To me the black bloc is more like an impromptu street gang looking for a pointless rumble.
