There's videos of him stating his positions on issues, and for the most part there pretty liberal and thats not a very long time ago.
He ran as a conservative to pander to conservatives to win the primaries and then the election. He is already starting to try to compromise with democrats but he has to be careful not to turn off his voter base. He hates the freedom caucus, that is not an act.
I dont want to be misunderstood though, I don't think he should be president. He's not qualified, and he does have a temperament problem. Im just saying Id prefer him to Pence and frankly to just about every other republican that ran for the nomination.

That's what scares me most about him. He'll use that knowledge to push his conservative Xian agenda
