Judge in Florida teen shooting case refuses to withdraw [View all]

MIAMI — The judge in the Trayvon Martin murder trial has rejected a request from the neighborhood watch guard who fatally shot the unarmed black teen that he withdraw from the case, according to court documents released Wednesday.
Florida Judge Kenneth Lester said in his ruling that defendant George Zimmerman's motion was "legally insufficient," as he dismissed the petition that he stand down.
Zimmerman has been charged with second-degree murder over the February 26 incident, in which he shot and killed Martin, 17, in the city of Sanford following an alleged dispute.
Zimmerman had asked Judge Lester to step down from the case, saying in a motion that he would not get a fair trial after the judge rebuked him over a lack of transparency over his finances and revoked his bail bond.
