In reply to the discussion: Video of Texas Shooting Captured Bloodbath [View all]davsand
(13,446 posts)I understand that we all are horrified at what happened in that church, and we all carry hope that the horror will change legislator's hearts and minds. It might turn a few hearts, I would hope. I sincerely doubt, however, that the showing of that horror with do enough to change much.
I will guarantee you that a large portion of the people who disagreed with us all after Las Vegas, Sandy Hook, Pulse Nightclub, and (insert mass shooting event here) will view that video and look for ways to say that if the people in that church had only been armed, the shooter could have been stopped. It is an urban fantasy in that crowd that somehow they will be the hero to stand up against some guy spewing bullets promiscuously, and they will do it using a concealable handgun with an average sized clip that they had tucked under an arm or in their belt. "I hit the center mass every time on the range." or some variant is gonna be their logic. Thing is, MOST of them have zero idea or training in what it is to function in a setting that stressful and that rushed.
How many have to bleed and die, how many need to weep before sanity sets in? I honestly don't know any more.
