Democrats can be their worst enemy sometimes. They could have put up a unified front rallying around Al and having the courage that despite pressure to just give in and hand the Republicans what they wanted (which they do far too often), despite the first glance appearance of not respecting the woman accusers at first blush, they could have at the very least took the middle of the road approach by demanding an ethics review in the strongest language possible. And that that would determine if he stays. Their big plan of trying to make themselves look like the puritan party when it comes to sexual abuse could have been accomplished anyways as Republicans would not even demand an ethics review if put in the same place. So Democrats would already have been ahead in that game. There was absolutely no need to railroad Al.
So in the end...
We gained a Senator, from Alabama....through his opponents own actions
And we lost one of our most productive and popular Senators during the same time....through a top cadre of Democrats actions
Its a wash. And all they did was sow division in the party, when it could have been a rallying cry.
