But at this level of play with a huge game on the line, he's got to do a better job of timing his approach to the arrival of the ball. It was in the air long enough for an adjustment.
It was also the perfect play for the situation -- launch a high pass near the sideline to a receiver who is likely to make the catch in a jump ball play. Unless the defender was in position to leap with him and break up the pass without drawing a flag, the only way to save the game would have been to grab him after the catch and make the tackle in bounds -- or push him out of bounds before his feet came down. That may have been #23's best shot, but he got there too soon and couldn't slow down in time to make that play.
