3. Energy is an under-examined element of perhaps all history

I took about 6 history courses, and have read dozens of books. They are about events, timelimes. Financial flows or economies are mentioned in passing, but again, just facts.

We know prior to oil there was coal, whale oil, wood. Do historians know much about economies in ancient societies? Olive oil for example. Do we know the energy sources of the Celtic societies, Greece, Persia? I have no idea.

Today is a shame. Solar - photovoltaics, passive, active - renewables, wood heat ... all are viable modern technologies that produce enduring cost savings which reduces cash flows to fossil fuel industries. Few people use them, they just buy traditional houses with conventional heating and cooling systems, and keep paying the piper who just keeps drilling and piping.
