The event at the White House, held a week after 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz allegedly opened fire at his former high school, was part of the administration’s effort to show it is determined to listen and then act.

It's my opinion that TrumPutin just wanted to relieve some of the negative press and pressure with a show-and-tell while still sticking to the NRA's talking points. The article includes some of the testimony by the participants.

The article also links to an analysis piece, also by WaPo, updated Feb. 16, that is well worth seeing. It includes a graphic composed of human silhouettes. Each provides a name, age, and link to a shooting as you mouse over.
