In reply to the discussion: Republican Senate Nominee: Victims Of ‘Legitimate Rape’ Don’t Get Pregnant [View all]Bernardo de La Paz
(60,320 posts)He probably means "legitimate" as in "a legitimate accusation of a bona fide crime with incontrovertible prima facie evidence that can't be overlooked resulting in an open-and-shut case probably with a guilty plea".
I think his hidden assumptions are that on a date "no" means "maybe" or "yes", and that by definition husbands can't rape wives because the wife will only make false accusations in a divorce case. That was his reasoning in debates about a spousal rape law (it seems he ended up voting for it after all).
It seems he thinks that if a raped woman gets pregnant it is because there was some kind of attraction to the rapist and some kind of assent to the rape, making it a non-rape.
Of course it is all bullshit, especially the bogus bit about doctors telling him stuff about rape and pregnancy.
