4. Trump at Gridiron, talk about visiting enemy territory

Unless a president is prepared to poke some fun at himself, he doesn't do Gridiron. Someone must have told Trump he needed to have at least ONE moment with the press that could be interpreted as something other than civil war.

At Gridiron, the president of the Gridiron Club and his/her family meets with the POTUS and the VP prior to the start of the event. I would have been horrified if I had been forced to meet Trump like that. Good thing for me that when my dad was president of Gridiron, Clinton was in office! I tried to impress Al Gore by saying I was probably the one who came the longest way for the event (Germany). He said, "I don't think so. I just got in a few hours ago from Saudi Arabia." oops

Maybe someone told Trump in advance the line every Gridiron president says to open the event: "Reporters are never present. Ladies are always present. And the gridiron singes, but it never burns."
