for the year they receive it. If they get the $100K, they'll have cash to pay the tax, which, if you include their regular wages, will probably be somewhere around $30K. If they win a Mercedes, though ($60K?), they might have to sell it to pay the extra tax if they don't have the extra cash. And, of course, there's the fact that less than 2% of the work force will get any bonus at all.
