The White House on Thursday lashed out at former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who has been under fire for disparaging remarks she made this week about President Trump’s voters.

“I think that is a perfect example of why Hillary Clinton is not in the White House,” press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said during a press briefing. “She is completely disconnected from the American public and certainly I think shows her disdain for the millions and millions of Americans who came out and voted for President Trump and still support him today.”

At a conference in India this week, Clinton said the states that voted in favor of Trump were “looking backwards” and insinuated that Middle America is lagging the coasts in nearly every department.

"All that red in the middle, where Trump won, what the map doesn't show you is that I won the places that represent two-thirds of America's gross domestic product,” Clinton said. “So I won the places that are optimistic, diverse, dynamic, moving forward."
