Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) said that the Trump administration’s firing of former deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe is “added evidence of obstruction of justice” for special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.

The Senate Judiciary Committee member argued that McCabe’s firing shows that Congress needs to pass a bill protecting Mueller’s investigation and blocking the removal of the special counsel.

Blumenthal has often called for Congress to pass a bill to protect Mueller, including after a New York Times report that Trump ordered that Mueller be fired last year.
