(17,802 posts)The office of white house council represents the white house and executive branch, not the president. If kushie were just any staffer, it would be appropriate for mcghan's office to investigate and make a criminal referral if warranted.
But in cases where their independence can be questioned, it should be referred to justice or a special council to investigate. So if the wrongdoing is at the level of a chief of staff, nsc chief, or key senior advisors, the white house council rarely investigates because the smell is atrocious.
Why mcghan would do this is curious. He is likely cooperating with muehler. At the very least he is keenly aware he is in legal jeopardy if he does anything unethical.
Maybe muehler told him to. Just to see if trump would interfere.......
