(14,782 posts)Being a scientific type, many years ago (Reagan or Bush years, I forget) it was eating me up trying to understand how anyone could think with a Republican mindset (I refuse to call them conservatives). I did a lot of on-line research and finally found the research you referenced, along with several other meaningful studies.
They also say there is a critical period when we're young (late teens/early 20s) when we can most easily fall (or be driven) into either camp, and I believe that's true - plus the effects of genetic psychopathy that determines how much we are fear-driven.
Those who are genetically predisposed to be fearful AND are raised under authoritarian influences (parents, schools, etc.) would turn out to be the worst. And, if a person was also genetically a psychopath, then we have people like Trump and many of the corporate leaders. So, it takes like a three-banger to create and complete flaming asshole, LOL.
Anyway, I gained enough satisfaction to at least partially be at peace with this awful subset of our human population, and can recognize the characteristics more easily now. They are just like redheads and those born blind - there will always be some in the mix.
Thanks for sharing!......
