House leaders have enough votes to call special session on Greitens' woes

JEFFERSON CITY Republican leaders in the Missouri House have collected enough signatures to call a special session to hold possible impeachment proceedings against Gov. Eric Greitens.

The report contains evidence that Greitens and associates lied in campaign filings, a class A misdemeanor, and violated campaign finance law
A day after the House released a second scathing report on the governor, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle said enough members of the House had signed the petition calling for the special session.
A count was underway in the Senate Thursday afternoon. Senators were meeting behind closed doors to discuss the matter.
"We should be pretty close," said Senate Majority Floor Leader Mike Kehoe, R-Jefferson City.
"I'm hopeful that we can proceed," added Senate President Pro Tem Ron Richard, R-Joplin.
It was not immediately clear when the session would begin if enough votes are secured in the Senate. But, the Legislature is scheduled to adjourn its regular session on May 18, four days after Greitens goes on trial in St. Louis for felony invasion of privacy
