Flight Attendant Union Reaches Tentative Deal With United [View all]
The union representing United Airlines flight attendants has tentatively agreed to a new labor contract, bringing the merged United and Continental Airlines closer to full integration.
If a majority of United's 15,000 flight attendants approves the contract, it would conclude the first phase of labor negotiations for United Continental Holdings Inc., allowing the company to focus on talks to integrate the work groups of its two subsidiaries.
For months, the Chicago-based airline, now the world's largest by traffic, has been working to reach labor agreements with several work groups of its United subsidiary before it could begin joint negotiations on combined contracts.
If United attendants approve the deal, United Continental will begin joint negotiations to integrate the United attendants with Continental's 9,000 attendants. All of the work groups from both subsidiaries then would be in some form of joint talks for combined contracts.
