He probably has no clue why he was told to say it.
Ivanka posted a pic holding her kid close. Junior's soon to be ex posted a pic of what her kids were doing the last day before camp, Melania posted a pic where she mentioned kids or family over tea while entertaining as First Lady, Pompeo posted about world refugee day!

They are obviously either all clueless or evil.

The invitations are out, the food has been prepared, families are in town for it. Why the not go through with it?

The only reason I can imagine is that he is afraid attendance will be down, like the Philadelphia Eagles visit fiasco.
