(455 posts)Most minority groups seem to understand what's going on is wrong. The problem in this instance are the (mostly white) folks who are terrified of the boat rocking in the first place. It's easier for people to ignore shit that doesn't affect them directly. Calls for civility amount to "shut up, sit down and stop making me think about shit I don't wanna or don't understand". We've seen it already with kneeling football players- it doesn't matter how much respect they showed, at issue is the mirror the players held up. People don't like what they see.
Naming the abusers for what they are, over and over again, will be necessary. Silence = normalization. Either we need to get much louder or the Trump admin is gonna have to make shit MUCH worse before the hesitant are willing to step up. And yes, people are gonna get upset that the status quo is being disturbed. That status quo doesn't impact them directly, so they won't care why/how people are protesting. It's up to us to rustle their jimmies enough to take action.
We must be the shield for those with no power until that third of our population with their heads up their asses wakes up to disarm the swordsman.
