Spies are usually considered "disposable", especially if they are caught. She's pretty young and seemed to believe the Hollywood version of her trade, may have gotten carried away, and possibly didn't heed any warnings. You notice that Kislyak, who was a well known spy despite being Ambassador, went bye bye back to Russia last year (he had been in that U.S. Ambassador position since 2008), although he was apparently back here recently and met with her.
