He knows full well he can do nothing about Pelosi in the short term, and I have no doubt he will support Pelosi 100% once he gets elected. In the long term, it's a given that we need and will have a new generation of Democratic leaders. I also suspect that Pelosi herself will facilitate the transition once she achieves her goal of taking over the House.

What I hear is O'Connor articulating a multi-faceted long term course of action and, arguably, positioning himself to work in concert with the current Democratic leaders. It is to his credit that he can put it in terms that appeal to the voters he needs to win in November.
