It should be rectified and replaced by majority vote. Another compromise was states rights. Their should be one law of the land for federal issues. Local governments rights should be restricted to local issues. This latter issue will come into increasing play with Kavanaugh on the bench. Many don't believe that the Supreme Court will reverse Roe vs. Wade but with the majority will declare state restrictions constitutional. That is the problem with states rights being able to ignore federal law it creates a ridiculous situation. An example is liquor laws which allow states, cities and counties to ignore the repeal of prohibition. The problem is that most of the objections and exceptions are based on religious convictions and it is the a case of people is control imposing their religious dogmas on the entirety of those in their jurisdiction. It is ironic in that the very people who are opposed to government control are the worst abusers of what they oppose. What can be more fundamental than a women's control of her own body.
