A heavy law enforcement presence was seen at the private home of U.S. Sen. Susan Collins Monday afternoon to investigate what police are calling a suspicious envelope sent to her West Broadway residence.
Police responded to Collins house at 1:39 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, to investigate a report of the envelope that had been delivered sometime earlier that day, said Sgt. Wade Betters of the Bangor Police Department. He declined to describe why the envelope was deemed suspicious and deferred questions to the U.S. Capitol Police.
Collins, a Republican, was not at home Monday afternoon as members of the Bangor Criminal Investigation Division, the Bangor Fire Department and a HAZMAT team from Orono investigated her home.
