40. He didn't for many years. When he finally did when I was in college and visited him one time,

it was pretty terrible, as you might imagine. I had asked him before why there were no Nazis from Dachau at Nuremberg, for I had never heard of any.

He told me there were a few SS who were captured, maybe a dozen. The American troops executed some by firing squad. Others didn't get out that easily. My uncle told me the American soldiers handed out shovels to the survivors strong enough to swing them, and threw a few guards into their midst. About that, he said, "Remember, Nazis are good only for killing."

This was confirmed years later in a declassified film documentary, for some of it was filmed. I don't have the link. I don't want to see it again. My uncle was a gentle man who was exposed to horror and evil that was truly beyond his imagining, and it hurt him deeply.
