Oil and gas extraction employs 150K Americans, with wages from $40K at the low end to $150K for engineers. You know, those "good" jobs that everyone wants more of.

The thing is, the volatility of oil prices doesn't really help anyone but oil traders. I've lived around the O&G business all my life. There is a significant down side to cheap oil. Cheap oil means cheap gas, and that means more people buying gas guzzlers instead of sippers. It makes greener energy sources like solar and wind less viable. It shuts down extraction here in the US, costing thousands of jobs and making us more dependent on the murdering thugs of SA.
