Source: Politics.eu

He said May had recognized “disquiet” about her Brexit strategy (there's an understatement) and that “she also recognizes a lot of people aren't comfortable with her leading us into a future general election.”

He emphasized May's message about rebuilding the relationship with the Democratic Unionist Party, while pursuing her goal of getting new assurances on the Irish backstop from European leaders. But she also warned MPs in no uncertain terms about the risks of a leadership contest now.

“She laid down very starkly this is what we were risking … she said very clearly this would be a very, very bad time to replace a leader, it would cause a delay, it would place a question mark over the timetable, it would give others the excuse to delay or even pull Article 50 completely. She said that would be completely unacceptable to the British people.”
