(7,604 posts)It was decades ago. But Christian fundamentalism and the "Reborn" movement erased the political will to move forward. Simply put, we can't keep increasing our national and world population. Industrialization has spread and resulted in fewer and fewer reasons to increase population, arithmetically, geometrically, or otherwise. As for the US population and why people have fewer children than ever before, I can site one good reason: money. Young parents simply don't make enough money to support a large family. And that's the bloody truth. Another: Family farms are a thing of the past, in which having large families is good for the survival of the family farm. The kids contributed to the economy of the farm. And that's one of the few reasons in the US for having a large family. But no more.
