(3,481 posts)In my case, as a US citizen residing full-time in Canada, none of my income is taxable because I make less than a certain amount. The threshold in 2018 was just over $100k, I believe. Anything over that is taxable, though, and you are supposed to report it to the IRS, regardless of the amount.
That being said, I've never bothered to report my foreign-earned income to the IRS, and I've never been hassled about it when crossing the border. It might be different if I intended to return to the States to reside full-time. We've got no plans to do so, though. The US doesn't regard my wife's profession as a "desired profession" for the purposes of immigration, so we have no real reason to want to leave Canada, and plenty of reasons to want to stay.
