I was sued by a junk debt buyer once, and represented myself. Got it dismissed.

Not saying it wasn't a ton of work or that the average person should represent themselves in any legal matter, but it was nice to be able to add in pleadings a request for "all court costs and attorney fees should the Defendant be compelled to retain counsel".

Aka "You really want to spend more on a losing case?"
