pyramid scheme. Off the top of my head, here are some buildings in downtown Grand Rapids named after them:

Amway Grand Plaza Hotel
Van Andel Arena
De Vos Performance Hall
Helen De Vos Children's Hospital
De Vos Place Convention Center
Cook De Vos Center for Health Sciences (GVSU)

There are others, but I just can't think of them now. They throw money around, but they make damned sure everybody knows it which I think is tacky. I'm so glad I moved. It was annoying seeing their names all over the place.
