DPS commissioner calls George Floyd death a murder: 'That's what it looked like to me', 5/29/20
The death of George Floyd while in the custody of Minneapolis police has been called a murder by the commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
"The vast majority of the great people of Minnesota and the great people of Minneapolis who are still having their guts ripped out by the Floyd murder and we'll call it a murder that's what it looked like to me," said John Harrington.
"I don't want to prejudice this from a criminal perspective. I'm just calling it what I see at that point," the commissioner added while speaking about the state's response to protesting that has led to riots in the wake of Floyd's death.
It's the first time anyone from local law enforcement has publicly called Floyd's death a murder. It also comes on the heels of leaders from both the New York Police Department and Los Angeles Police Union condemning the police tactics used on Floyd.

John Harrington, the DPS Commissioner, overseas the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehensions (BCA). The BCA and the FBI are investigating the murder. So this is quite a statement, and from someone who is not just some random MN official.

SCOTUS says he has "qualified immunity". It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I guess we will never know if an earlier arrest would have quelled the riots before they happened.
