(442 posts)I was at a local Thai restaurant with my 15 year old daughter last night when an elderly couple was seated at the booth behind ours. Virtually immediately after sitting down, the man of the couple began bloviating about this topic..."they said it wasn't a terrorist attack initially because he sympathizes with the terrorists.", "I can't believe the media isn't calling him out for lying to the American people about the attack", etc. etc.
I listened, silently fuming and, when leaving couldn't help myself (read as, I couldn't hold my tongue any longer). I approached him and his wife and said the following:
"Sir, allow me to preface this with the fact that I mean no disrespect but, I have been, by necessity listening to your conversation and I feel that I have to comment.
This President does NOT sympathize with anyone who would do this Nation or her people harm because, I believe, he has a deep and unyielding love of this Country as do I. His Administration did not exercise restraint in calling the attack in Libya a terrorist attack because of any misguided sense of how foreign policy works or because he's a secret muslim (to which, ironically, he nodded...which was very telling)....he didn't come out and call it a terrorist attack until last week because, that is when the intelligence came in with confirmation that their suspicions had been correct and it was, in fact, a coordinated terror attack. And, personally, I would rather have a President who weighs the intelligence before going off half cocked than one who rushes into an unnecessary war with a Nation that never attacked us, getting dozens of my friends and brothers in arms killed for no good god-damned reason like the last guy to hold that office did! At least this President understands the real cost of war...probably because he wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth, which is one of many reasons he will (I'm assuming, much to your chagrin) win a 2nd term in office."
