It's like saying that a punk that holds up a 7-11 and gets a block away has escaped scot-free. Ignore the video footage, identification by the clerk, fingerprints and the likely forensic investigation, arrest, arraignment, trial, sentencing, and fine or jail time. The punk obviously completely got away with it since he managed to go 24 hours without being incarcerated.
