This is part of why Trump gets so much support still.

This unfounded exceptionalism that has infected the USA. "Greatness" doesn't even have to be defined. What is it? "I know you are but what am I?" "You and what army?" "USA USA USA!!!"
It seems like there is this consistent percent of people that have to hear how great they are all the time (as the "true" Americans) and their country, as they define it, by extension. A fantasy country made up of different parts of history, and some made up ones. Suffice to say, the white straight male comes out on top. White straight married females second. Then everyone else, who are tolerated because hey, someone has to do the fast food service and cleaning and pick the fruit.
