so they went straight to the people who may be easily convinced to join them. I think the basic goal is a big grift, with the side mission of “protecting the Constitution.” The constitutional angle is to lend legitimacy to them and convince followers their goals are in the interest of America.

Mailing lists are gold to them and these same lists can be used to un-radicalize Americans in the future.
