CLEVELAND, Ohio Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced on Monday that he will send 14 Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers to the U.S.-Mexico border to help Texas authorities with border surveillance.
DeWine sent the troopers at the request of fellow Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, according to a statement. The state troopers will be sent to Texas later this week and will stay for two weeks.
DeWine made the announcement three days after he said he would send 185 Ohio National Guard troops to the border later in 2021 at the request of the Biden Administration. DeWine previously sent 115 National Guard troops to help with the operation.
Both the National Guard troops and troopers are being sent to provide non-law enforcement support to the U.S. Custom and Border Protection after requests for help from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, National Guard Bureau and governors from border states.
