(13,294 posts)The flu is nasty, but getting it is like being hit by a drunk driver. Other than staying in your house and being hyper-vigilant when you do go out, getting killed by one is a crap shoot. Last year I took the flu vaccine and still got a bad case of the disease.
Refusing to take one of the COVID vaccines , however, and then attending a super-spreader event is like dressing head-to-toe in black clothing and then standing in the middle of the freeway at night and expecting not to get hit.
I had a 75 year old diabetic unvaccinated friend of 30 years who died from COVID last month only two weeks after he and his girlfriend went to a crowded local bar to listen to the band. I've been balancing the grief and anger I'm feeling, with the anger dominating right now. He was neither reckless nor dumb, but he chose to ignore the warnings, and refused to do the one thing that would have kept him alive. There hasn't been a day that I haven't missed him.
