23. Here in Philly before the post-July 4th surge

Oct 2021

they had dropped down reporting the numbers to about twice a week (I think starting the beginning of June). Then they had to go back to daily and start up the weekly city Health Department pressers when the numbers started going back up. That's when the indoor mask requirements started getting imposed again - including for vaccinated people, along with getting more people vaccinated, and it worked to start knocking the numbers down.

I know they are probably sick of it and continue to focus on the vaccine message (and Philly is up to 70% fully vaccinated with 85% with one dose) but I know that people other than the media are following the numbers (like me) to judge the risk...

We have the other issue of the inter-state traffic between PA and NJ and Jersey had to really crack down to get their positivity down. Meanwhile PA has all those loon red counties that are just helping to fill the hospitals and morgues.

I think if anything, what we have seen is that when the transmission rate is down, you can have those larger events like they have done here and at the stadiums and not necessarily risk a catastrophic super-spreader event. But if there is a high-transmission rate, I expect that given the configurations of the small sports areas like at high schools with nothing more than bleachers, you risk have more transmission - even if outside.
