Stop shoving Xmas down our throats earlier and earlier every year!! Good lord, it starts in mid-October now. Sure, it's all a marketing strategy, but my gawd, by the time Xmas actually gets here I'm spent and done. Maybe they could do us all a favor and dial it back to "black Friday" at least! Please.

And Fugelsang made all the points about the Xmas that I could name - the subsuming of a pagan holiday, that the birth was most likely in the late spring based on a number of factors as described from the Christian story, and not mentioned, that Yeshua ben Yosef was one of hundreds of self-proclaimed "messiahs" from those times, many executed or imprisoned by the Romans. Assuming that he was a real person, he was Hebrew until his end, a rabbi, and would likely be aghast that his memory has been perverted the way it has been over the centuries - to include the continued persecution and attempts at extermination of those of his faith.
