All he had to do was give the country a "we can beat this thing" pep talk, and get people to do the right thing to minimize the danger. His reelection would have been all but assured.
But, he didn't. His active denial of the threat cost hundreds of thousands of lives, and was the single biggest factor in his loss to Biden.
He was afraid to take responsibility for tanking the economy, which happened anyway.
Stupid, arrogant, and may I add callous to your assessment.
