8. I met her several years ago when she came to my university to speak.

She was a wonderful speaker. One thing she said that always stuck with me was the US shouldn't be a "melting pot" it should be thought of as a "mixed salad". Her rationale was a melting pot was too blended and lost parts of the "ingredients", but a salad, all the parts maintained individuality, but all come together to make something special.

RIP Ms. Weddington.
