They are sent to host families.

Planes are chartered to a larger regional airport. From there, migrants are sent to numerous host families. For instance: DC with host families in Virginia and Maryland. The immigrants are vetted. The host families are vetted.
Tabs are kept on asylum seekers because they have court dates pending etc.

I read NAMUS (missing kids) and in several cases migrant teens have run back home because part of the requirement to stay in the US was to attend school.
