It's become a core value of the GOP, I assume? Doesn't matter what the issue is; if it's offered up by a Democrat, speak and vote against it. If the same thing is brought up by a Republican, speak and vote for it.

At the most basic level, this is a crude show of power. They're showing their constituents that Republicans don't have to cooperate with anyone else, because cooperation and compromise are signs of *weakness*.

Sad thing is, it's worked for them for...going on 13 years now.
