Here in the US, if anything, we're moving backward. For a while, there was a larger black middle class here than there had ever been. But as the subprime vultures targeting communities of color, a great deal of the wealth accumulated by minorities has likely vanished in the last few years. And with the Republicans shamelessly flogging their racist agenda, racism that used to be tacit seems now to be more out in the open.
