the guy might just be anti-war. All war. It is, after all, a waste of human potential at the most basic level.

I don't agree with the premise that defending yourself is bad. It is, in my opinion, a basic human right. Doesn't mean it will result in the best outcome in terms of minimizing the loss of human life but that's a calculation that we all have to make in accordance with our beliefs.
