In reply to the discussion: Feinstein Suffered More Complications From Illness Than Were Publicly Disclosed [View all]LisaM
(29,682 posts)I had it a couple of years ago, my face swelled up on one side and my eye swelled shut. My work was less than supporting, even though I had months of extended sick leave saved up, no one cleared me to use it. It was difficult, but enough people have shingles that it shouldn't be a reason to have to leave your job.
I did leave my job. It became unbearable that they were saying things like I was making typos when my I was seeing everything out of one eye. I had been there 20 years and was treated like a slacker.
What kind of a country is it where people basically get forced out of their jobs for shingles? Yes, Feinstein is old, but she's still effective, has already announced her retirement, and should be allowed to continue to apply her institutional knowledge at work.
The real issue is that the Republicans pettily would not allow a temporary replacement. That's absolutely ridiculous. There are ways to accommodate illness.
